Instagram Engagement Rate Calculator

Engagement rate measures how actively your audience interacts with a post relative to your follower count. It's the most common way creators, brands, and agencies benchmark performance — a high engagement rate usually signals content that resonates, while a low one suggests reach without real interest. Use the calculator below to get an instant rate for any Instagram post.

How to calculate Instagram engagement rate

The standard per-post engagement rate formula divides total interactions by follower count, then multiplies by 100 to get a percentage:

Engagement Rate (%) =
  ((Likes + Comments + Shares + Saves) / Followers) × 100

For example, a post with 800 likes, 50 comments, 30 shares and 20 saves on a 10,000-follower account has an engagement rate of (900 / 10,000) × 100 = 9.00%.

What's a good engagement rate?

There's no single benchmark, but smaller accounts almost always see higher engagement rates than large ones. Micro-creators (roughly 1K–10K followers) often see 3–8% on a strong post because their audience is tight-knit and interactive. Mid-sized accounts (10K–100K) typically land between 1% and 3%. Large accounts and celebrities (1M+) frequently sit below 1% — reach is huge, but the share of followers actually interacting drops.

Treat the calculator's output as a comparison tool: track the same account over time, or compare two posts on the same account, rather than benchmarking against creators in a completely different size bracket.
